Message from the Dean of the Graduate School of Life Science: Preventing the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19)【April 14】

To prevent further spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), Mr. Ko Hasegawa, Executive Director-Vice President, issued “Notice on Activities of Daily Living” for HU students as of April 9. (https://www.global.hokudai.ac.jp/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/20200409_noticeDaily_student_Eng.pdf)In response to this, the Graduate School of Life Science takes measures below for the time being.

1. Students who are currently living or staying outside Hokkaido

Upon settling in or coming back to Hokkaido, we request you to stand by at home for 14 days after arrival from outside Hokkaido. During the time watch out your health condition and stay home. Due to this measure, if you can not make it to the classes which commence from May 11, we will not mark you absent. Please do not worry. If you remain self-isolation on or after May 11, please be sure to contact the Graduate School Educational Affairs Section (r-gakuin@sci.hokudai.ac.jp  Phone: 011-706-3675). For those students in the Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Science Course and Division of Clinical Pharmacy, please contact the Academic Affairs Section in the Administration Office of the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Pharmacy (kyomu@pharm.hokudai.ac.jp  Phone:011-706-3489).

Also, as shown in the following 2, first semester classes in the Graduate School of Life Science will be basically conducted online. You may take the online classes in the network environment of your current residence or accommodation.

2. Classes on or after May 11
First semester classes for fiscal year (FY) 2020 will be mainly conducted online. Once the details are decided, you will be notified of it through Rigaku Joho System, ELMS and so on. We ask you to visit the website regularly for the latest updates.

3. Visiting campus before classes commence
Please refrain from visiting campus other than research activities shown in the following 4. Since the office of the Science and Life Science Administration Department will be closed, please email the Graduate School Educational Affairs Section at (r-gakuin@sci.hokudai.ac.jp) when you have inquiries or necessary administrative procedures.

4. Research Activity
Only when it is necessary to continue the ongoing experiments and researches in your laboratory, please obtain your supervisor’s permission and do so. When working, you have to make sure that the environment does not fall under three conditions: ① Confined spaces (with poor ventilation) ② Crowded places (with many people nearby) ③ Close contact (with people) and strive to reduce the duration of work in the laboratory.

5. Research activity and job hunting with business trip or travel
We request you to inform your supervisor of the destination and the period. Upon coming back to Hokkaido, please stand by at home for 14 days after arrival from outside Hokkaido unless absolutely necessary to go out. Please refrain from vising campus including university facilities.

6. If you feel sick or believe you have symptoms of coronavirus infection, we ask you to contact your supervisor or email/phone below.
