The Graduate School of Life Science is one of the most recently established graduate schools in Hokkaido University, which itself has a longstanding history and has been dedicated to the education of students with global perspectives for nearly 140 years. Our graduate school is taught by faculty members spanning four separate departments (School of Science, School of Agriculture, School of Medicine and Faculty of Advanced Life Science) and six research institutions (Institute of Low Temperature Science, Research Institute for Electric Science, Institute for Genetic Medicine, Catalytic Research Center, National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, National Institute for Materials Science). Our main objective is to educate and foster the development of students with multi-disciplinary views beyond the conventional boundaries of life sciences.
In particular, the Biosystems Science Course offers graduate programs that facilitate students to understand the common biological systems that integrate a broad spectrum of biomolecules. These programs also enable the students to understand biodiversity at the molecular, cellular and systems levels. For more information on specific research subjects, please visit the Research page (http://www.lfsci.hokudai.ac.jp/bs/en/lab/).
We welcome students from all over the world into our graduate program. Various scholarship programs (http://www.oia.hokudai.ac.jp/prospective-students/scholarships/) are available for students from other countries who wish to study in our graduate school. Please check our laboratory list and contact faculty members at any time to obtain more detailed information pertaining to our educational and scholarship programs. We encourage you to join the Graduate School of Life Science, learn advanced life science with us, and enjoy your life in our beautiful campus in Sapporo, Japan!
Our course runs an international graduate program (IGP) together with the Transdisciplinary Life Science Course, aiming to educate students to become leaders with a global perspective. A special quota of the MEXT (Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) scholarship is available for oversea students. For self-financing students, a JASSO (Japan Student Services Organization) scholarship program is available. For more information on the IGP program and scholarships, please visit the IGP web site (http://altair.sci.hokudai.ac.jp/grad/igpoverview/), and/or contact potential supervisors listed here (http://www.lfsci.hokudai.ac.jp/bs/en/lab/).
